![]() So I bought an ESI Audio USB U24XL for much cheaper that does that job without the expense of preamps and a Firewire card. For this one simple task, I think Firewire is kind of stupid. I ended up getting an RME ADI2 outboard ADC and bypassing the Saffire ADCs and just using the Saffire to interface my ADC to my computer. I like the fact it has a Toslink ADAT in port and RCA S/PDIF in/out, which work fine if you can figure out the Mix Control software. Applies to: Saffire Range and 1st Generation Scarlett 6i6, 8i6, 18i6, 18i8 and 18i20. it out B as you seldom need to monitor your voice and the latency can throw you. ![]() DPCLat does not seem to work well in Windows 8 I am told. These settings: 48kHz sample rate, 256 samples latency (buffer size), Firewire driver latency - 'medium' (not 'short' - that makes dropouts). I got the Black Lion mods done, but I still was not satisfied with the quality of the preamps and I eventually bought an expensive outboard preamp, bypassing the Saffire's built-in preamps. If I bypass the laptop entirely and run the internal piano sound on my. Mix Control 3.1, standard Windows firewire drivers. I have some decent outboard preamps, so would probably bypass them, but theyd be good to have anyhow. The Mix Control software is kind of cryptic, so you have to read the manual and experiment. The Saffire Mix Control is a separate application. Personally I have no complaints with 2.2, but I always feel I'm missing something if I don't. I've tried the upgrades to 2.4 and 3.0 and for various reasons I always switched back to 2.2. ![]() I've been running Mixcontrol 2.2 and standard Win 7 (not legacy) firewire drivers. I've never really used the DSP features of the Saffire, since I have plenty of effects in my DAW. I know there are a lot of Saffire users here. OK preamps, OK ADCs, I would prefer USB over Firewireįirst of all, you need a Firewire 400 card with the Texas Instruments chipset. I show how the Scarlett mix control software works, how to set up a mix, low latency monitoring, and give some application examples rather than just saying w.
